/ CBS News
College football season is about to start, and whether your a student, alumni or just a fan, everyone wants to get connected to the game. It's hard to attend all the home and away games, but thanks to social media, you can stay connected with your favorite teams. Here's our list of teams making the best use of their online space.
#10. South Carolina
The Gamecocks' digital and social media guide is a one stop shop to learn how to follow the University of South Carolina football team online.
Fans should check out the Oklahoma State toolbar and browser to keep the Cowboys on your mind 24/7. Also the @Weeden2Blackmon Twitter and Facebook page allow the team to follow the Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon duo directly.
#7. University of Texas
The controversial Longhorn Network, the joint television venture between ESPN and the University of Texas, is also available for streaming online for the die-hard fan on the go. While you're perusing their reading material on the website, listen to "Get Hooked: Official Music of the Texas Longhorns," available on iTunes.
#6. Notre Dame
The desktop communicator might sound like science fiction, but it's the fastest way to keep up to speed on the Fighting Irish. The Irish ALERT text messaging service lets you know when breaking news is happening while you're at that urgent meeting that you couldn't skip to watch the game. We also like the Jack Swarbrick Show, Notre Dame's Director of Athletics weekly podcast.
The University of Oklahoma Sooners are on the top of the Associated Press Top 25, Coaches' Poll and CBS Sports 120. But, this team doesn't only excel on the field: They're taking names when it comes to social media. With active Facebook and YouTube pages -- not to mention a Twitter for almost every school team -- it's easy to stay connected. The school also supports AT&T text alerts for breaking team news and a very in-depth website where you can play Oklahoma trivia and look through scrapbooks of the school's sports history.
If you're rooting for the Ducks, good news: There's no better team connected to their fans online. Their live Go Ducks morning show starts your day out right, while iPhone and Android apps keep the fan connected. And, their Facebook page is constantly updated with behind the scenes photos, contests and videos. Go Ducks!
