Top 30 movies not out on Blu-ray

'Ben-Hur'

Warner Bros. has announced that "Ben Hur" will make its debut on Blu-ray on September 27 as the "Ben-Hur 50th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition." If you're wondering why the math doesn't add up on that 50th anniversary, the restoration process, which cost $1 million, took longer than expected and the 2009 release for the actual 50th was missed. Warner Bros. says the the frame-by-frame restoration from an 8k scan of the original 65mm camera negative was the highest-resolution restoration ever completed by the studio. 'Jaws'

OK, so the shark might look a little fake in HD on the closeups, but "Jaws" will still be a must-have Blu-ray when it comes out.

'The Big Lebowski'

If you will it, it is no dream: The Dude is finally coming to Blu-ray on August 16th.

The first three Indiana Jones adventures

The latest Indy is out on Blu-ray, but that was crap. We need the old ones.

'Chinatown'

"The future, Mr. Gittes, the future."

'Chariots of Fire'

This Best Picture Oscar winner remains MIA as a Blu-ray.

'Dazed and Confused'

A cult classic, "Dazed and Confused" already came out on HD DVD, and will finally hit Blu-ray on August 9.

'The Deer Hunter'

"The Deer Hunter" also came out on HD DVD.

'Ed Wood'

Arguably Tim Burton's best movie (and perhaps his only really good one).

'Finding Nemo'

"The Incredibles" finally came out on Blu-ray. This is the other Pixar film a lot of folks are waiting for.

'Jurassic Park'

We only like the original "Jurassic Park," but they'd all make pretty fun test discs for your home-theater system.

'Lawrence of Arabia' When the Blu-ray format was first being previewed, "Lawrence of Arabia" was Sony's poster child for the format's interactivity features (you were able to call up maps and history lessons in the middle of the movie). Alas, Lawrence has been deserted so far.

'Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Version'

The theatrical release of the "Lord of the Rings Trilogy" came out on Blu-ray several month ago, but the extended versions are what true fans of the series crave. They get it on June 28.

'Mulholland Drive'

Some people prefer "Lost Highway," but we're pining for "Mulholland Drive," which made an appearance on HD-DVD.

'Catch Me If You Can'

Made it to Broadway but not Blu-ray.

'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'

Also made it to Broadway but not Blu-ray.

'Pulp Fiction'

"Reservoir Dogs" is out on Blu-ray, but not "Pulp Fiction."

'Rear Window'

"North by Northwest" is out now on Blu-ray, but we're still waiting for other Hitchcock classics to arrive.

'The Right Stuff'

"The Right Stuff" is long, but it's got a high repeated-viewing quotient.

'Rushmore'

We couldn't decide between "Rushmore" and "The Royal Tenenbaums," which would also look good on Blu-ray. But we went with "Rushmore" because it's our favorite Wes Anderson movie.

'Scarface'

First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the Blu-ray.

This one's coming this fall--September 6 to be exact.

'Shakespeare in Love'

The DVD of "Shakespeare in Love" had reference-quality video. The movie was also pretty great (it did win Best Picture). Where's the Blu-ray?

'Star Wars' Trilogy

Will be released on September 16.

'Star Wars' Prequel Trilogy

Also coming September 16.

'The Sting' The original DVD of "The Sting" had video quality issues, but the HD DVD was better. Hopefully, the Blu-ray will be even better.

'Swingers'

The Blu-ray will be so money. Scheduled for release on August 23.

'Titanic'

It'll end differently on Blu-ray, we swear.

'Vertigo'

Another Hitchcock classic that should be on Blu-ray but isn't yet.

'West Side Story'

Looks like the Blu-ray for 'West Side Story' will be released in the UK on October 17. No word yet on a U.S. release date, but hopefully we'll see it this year.

'Good Will Hunting'

Do you like apples? Good, because "Good Will Hunting" will be out on Blu-ray August 30.
