These plants are meat eaters

Carnivorous plants derive most of their nutrients by consuming animals, most commonly flying, foraging, or crawling insects, and have adapted to grow in places where the soil does not contain enough nutrients for them to survive.

A pitcher plant hangs at a presentation of carnivorous plants at the Berlin-Dahlem Botanical Garden. These carnivorous plants lure their pray with smells to the rim of a liquid-filled cup, where the insects usually fall in due to a slick surface, and become trapped by the liquid. Eventually, digestive juices are released into the liquid at the bottom of the cup, and the plant absorbs the digested insect's nutrients.
