These celebrities survived brushes with death
Veteran actor and aviation enthusiast Harrison Ford was hospitalized Thursday after his vintage World War II-era plane crashed into a Los Angeles golf course.
It's not Ford's first close call. In 1999, he was piloting a Bell 206L4 LongRanger helicopter when it prematurely hit the ground. The craft eventually flipped over onto its side, but Ford survived. When asked later about the copter, the actor simply said, "I broke it."
When it comes to surviving a what could have been a deadly experience, Ford isn't alone.
Sandra Bullock
In 2000, a chartered business jet crashed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with Bullock and several others on board. The plane hit a snowbank after skidding off a runway during a nighttime landing.
50 Cent
A would-be killer once shot the rapper nine times at point-blank range, lodging bullets in the performer's hand, arm hips, legs, chest and face. He spent 13 weeks in the hospital and used the experience to inspire the album and film Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.
Sharon Stone
In 2001, the actress suffered a brain hemorrhage that she later described as "a white-light experience." She spent more than a week in the hospital.
Chevy Chase
In 1981, Chase suffered a freak electrical accident while filming a movie. His costume, a suit bedecked with lights, short circuited, causing electricity to surge through his body.
Stephen King
The horror writer suffered his own terrifying experience in 1999. A van hit him while he was taking an afternoon walk, collapsing one of his lungs and almost costing him a leg.
Rachel Bilson
Bilson was 16 when she suffered a near-fatal car crash. It left her unconscious for two days; she has said she still suffers migraines and memory loss stemming from the accident.
Jim Caviezel
During filming of the Sermon on the Mount scene for The Passion of the Christ, Caviezel was struck by lightning. Eyewitnesses described seeing fire on either side of the actor's head.
Dustin Hoffman
Before he was famous, Hoffman was living in a New York apartment. After leaving the apartment one day, it exploded behind him, destroying the building. The townhouse next door was occupied by the radical group The Weather Underground, which had accidentally detonated a bomb.

To lose weight for a role in 1997, Lawrence decided to go running in 100-degree heat while wearing several layers of clothing. He ended up in a coma for three days.

The hard-living rocker was driving an all-terrain vehicle in 2003 when it crashed. Osbourne, who had been filming a reality show at the time, suffered bleeding lungs and a crushed collarbone.
Johnny Depp
Depp in 2011 recalled a near-fatal flight he had with Rum Diary director Bruce Robinson. "The plane just shut down," he told Life magazine. "Bruce and I were looking at each other and I think I said, 'Is this it?'"
Kanye West
Through the Wire was the debut single for the rapper back in 2003. The name of the track was inspired by a near-fatal, head-on car collision that left West with his jaw wired shut.
Eminem
An accidental methadone overdose almost cost the rapper his life in 1997. A doctor later told him that he'd done the equivalent of four bags of heroin.
Gloria Estefan
In March of 1990, a speeding truck crashed into the singer’s tour bus during a snowstorm. Estefan was so badly hurt that doctors have to implant two titanium rods to stabilize her spine. “There were times when the pain was so bad,” she recalled later, “I prayed I'd pass out.”
