The stars of "Fresh Prince": Where are they now?
The beloved TV show "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" celebrates the 25th anniversary of its premiere this fall.

Then: Joseph Marcell
Joseph Marcell didn't think much of "Fresh Prince" when he flew out to Los Angeles to audition for the role, he told Digital Spy. But very quickly, the sitcom took viewers away from "Monday Night Football," at least in part to see Geoffrey, the dry-witted, proper butler for the Banks family.
Now: Joseph Marcell
"Geoffrey" is just as proper as he seemed on the show. Joseph Marcell has returned to his native London. Staying quite close to Geoffrey's sophisticated character, Marcell is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and serves on the board of the famous Globe Theatre, where he portrayed King Lear in 2013 and Leonato in "Much Ado About Nothing" in 2011. Marcell has not completely left television, though -- he guest-starred on an episode of BBC's crime drama "Death in Paradise" in 2014. Last year, he tweeted a photo from "Dancing with the Stars" when he joined castmates Karyn Parsons and Tatyana Ali to cheer on Alfonso Ribeiro.
Then: Janet Hubert
Though Janet Hubert played the calm, collected Aunt Vivian on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," things were not so cordial between the actress and co-stars Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro, which led to her dismissal from the show. She told the Insider in 2013 that Smith did "some heinous, horrible things to me -- they were like bad kids, Will and Alfonso [Ribiero], especially Alfonso. He said that I was crazy and nobody wanted to go to lunch with me."
Now: Janet Hubert
Janet Hubert is not interested in hearing about "Fresh Prince."
She wrote on her Facebook fan page in August, "I really thank you folks for loving Fresh Prince, but please don't send me stuff about the votes and polls and videos about it. I don't care, it just reminds of the past."
She also wrote on Facebook that she had declined media opportunities to revisit the series and that she thought the idea of a show reboot was inane. She said in her comment that Smith wanted her to come back for the last episode of season 6 as a cameo, playing a different character.
Hubert told Radar last year that she is facing serious health complications, including vertigo and "severe spasms." She is still working, though, and recently shot a pilot episode for a show called "Ward of the State."
Then: Daphne Maxwell Reid
Daphne Reid joined "Fresh Prince" in 1993, to take over the role of Aunt Vivian after Janet Hubert left.
Reid played Professor Vivian Banks, a retired doctor, who stayed at home to take care of her four children. Reid joined the show after Nicky was born.
Now: Daphne Maxwell Reid
Daphne Maxwell Reid is now a photographer who enjoys shooting "Fresh Prints," as she calls them. She focuses on architectural details like doors and gates all over the world from her travels.
Reid still acts, and is a popular figure in the Richmond, Virginia area. She hosts "Virginia Currents" on the local PBS station there as well as the monthly magazine format show "VSU Today" for Virginia State University.
Then: Tatyana Ali
Tatyana Ali played the cute little daddy's girl Ashley Banks on "Fresh Prince." Viewers watched Banks grow into a young woman on the sitcom and take on challenges as she grew older, all with the help of her favorite cousin, Will.
Now: Tatyana Ali
We always knew Ashley was smart.
Tatyana Ali has since graduated from Harvard and continues to work as an actress on TV shows. She acted on "The Young and the Restless," "Second Generation Wayans" and has a leading role in an upcoming film called "Samaria." Ali has also modeled for Beats by Dr. Dre.
Then: Karyn Parsons
Karyn Parsons played Hilary Banks, the beautiful, snobby eldest daughter on "Fresh Prince." Hilary's career grew and grew on the show until she became a national talk show host. Hilary was known and beloved for her Valley Girl-isms (though Hilary actually turned her nose up at the Valley).
Now: Karyn Parsons
Hilary Banks might have been a bit of a ditz, but Karyn Parsons could not be farther from the character today.
Parsons is the founder of a powerful initiative: She runs Sweet Blackberry, a non-profit that produces short kids' films about influential black figures in history. Parsons is married to director Alexandre Rockwell and has two kids.
Then: Ross Bagley
Ross Bagley played the baby of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." He joined the show in 1994 as Nicky Banks, or as Will called him -- "Little Man." The adorable tot stayed with the show until its finale.
Now: Ross Bagley
Ross Bagley worked with Will Smith again in the movie "Independence Day." He reunited with his "Little Rascals" castmates last year for this adorable photo and an interview on TMZ. Bagley now has a son and works as a realtor in the Los Angeles area. He also DJs.
Then: DJ Jazzy Jeff
DJ Jazzy Jeff's "Fresh Prince" character wasn't too far off -- his name was Jazz, and he played Will's best friend on the show. DJ Jazzy Jeff, who performed with Will Smith as a rap duo before the show, was always getting kicked out of the Banks' home by Uncle Phil.
Now: DJ Jazzy Jeff
DJ Jazzy Jeff is still working in music. He remixes and produces rap music.
He performed the scratch overdubs for the hit movie "Straight Outta Compton."
Then: James Avery
James Avery played the stern lawyer-turned-judge Philip Banks on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Though Uncle Phil was known to be strict and very rule-focused, all of the Banks children (plus Will) clearly respected him -- even if they made fun of his portly figure sometimes.
RIP: James Avery
James Avery died at 68 on Dec. 13, 2013 after suffering complications from open heart surgery. Avery had several small movie and TV roles in the years leading up to his death.
Will Smith reacted by writing on Facebook, "Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace."
Avery was clearly just as respected by his castmates as Uncle Phil was: Joseph Marcell told CNN that he was "a marvelous man and a truly wonderful actor," and Alfonso Ribeiro wrote in a tweet that Avery was a "second father" to him.
Then: Alfonso Ribeiro
Carlton Banks might be the most memorable character on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." The dorky second child of the Banks family loved Tom Jones and argyle sweaters, and he created the "Carlton Dance" -- perhaps the most notorious dance in TV history.
Now: Alfonso Ribeiro
Alfonso Ribeiro made a comeback long after his "Fresh Prince" success.
Ribeiro won season 19 of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2014, and he currently hosts "Unwrapped 2.0" on Food Network.
Then: Will Smith
In 1990, a well-known rapper became a superstar overnight.
Will Smith had a Rap Grammy under his belt by the time NBC approached him with an idea for a sitcom, executive produced by Quincy Jones. Smith played a fictionalized version of himself as a West Philadelphian teenager who gets sent to Bel-Air to live with his wealthy uncle and aunt.
The show focused on the often hilarious, sometimes serious cultural clashes between Will and his Bel-Air relatives.
Now: Will Smith
Will Smith is still sitting on his throne, 25 years later. Smith is one of the highest paid actors in the world (he came in 18th on Forbes' list) and he's also on the Forbes 100 most powerful celebrities list (75 in 2014). Smith's kids, Willow and Jaden, with wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, have both become successful actors, as well. Smith is reportedly shopping around a "Fresh Prince" sequel.
