As Teri Hatcher explains it, "Burnt Toast," the title of her book, refers to a certain attitude: "I think that women, mothers especially, we take care of everybody else first before ourselves, and, I think, in a very self-sacrificing way, but also in a way that's damaging. We don't 'role model' that we are important enough to take care of ourselves, too."

About "Burnt Toast," Teri Hatcher says: "The book is kind of my really raw revelations of my own failures and successes and how to treat yourself better. How to incorporate your child into doing things that make you feel a little bit better instead of always servicing them. How everybody sort of ends up better in the end because of it."
