Super Bowl XLVIII: By the numbers
The Seattle Seahawks are one of 14 teams to have never won a Super Bowl.
In 1976, the Seahawks joined the NFL as an expansion team but until this year, the team had only been to the big game once in nearly four decades – in 2005, under Mike Holmgren. That year, they lost Super Bowl XL to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-10.

The Denver Broncos have won two Super Bowls. After losing four big games, including three in the 1980s, quarterback John Elway finally led the Broncos to consecutive titles in 1997 and 1998.
Denver beat the defending champion Green Bay Packers 31-24 in Super Bowl XXXII. The next season, Elway was named Super Bowl MVP after leading the Broncos to a 34-19 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

This will be Peyton Manning's third Super Bowl and first as a member of the Denver Broncos. The former Colts quarterback, now 37, beat the Chicago Bears to win the title in 2007 but lost to the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV in 2010.

Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman led the NFL with eight interceptions during the regular season.
Sherman, whose angry rant after the NFC championship game sparked a national debate over sportsmanship and racial attitudes, was calm, cool and collected at Super Bowl media day.
"People think I'm a loudmouth, an angry guy," Sherman said. "That's a big misconception."

Broncos' cornerback Champ Bailey is finally playing in a Super Bowl after 15 seasons in the league. One of the best defensive backs to ever play in the NFL, Bailey has been selected to 12 Pro Bowls and has 52 career interceptions.

Fans bet an unprecedented $99 million on the Super Bowl last year, and the Nevada gambling industry expects to break the record again Sunday, barring a snowstorm. Nevada sports books collected record amounts of football wagers during the tail end of 2013.

About 169 million people are expected to watch the Super Bowl, according to Wallethub.com. The game will be broadcast in 180 countries and in more than 30 languages. One 30-second ad this year will cost more than $4 million.
