Murdered UConn football star Jasper Howard will never get to meet his baby girl, but the 20-year-old got to name her the night before he was stabbed to death outside a campus dance party. According to UConn police, Jasper Howard got caught up in a fight between two groups that included students and non-students. The fight broke out just after a fire alarm went off in a student center, forcing around 300 people to evacuate from a university-sponsored dance. Somewhere in the melee, Howard was fatally stabbed. It's not yet clear if Howard was part of the altercation or just caught standing near it.

The UConn football player who was fatally stabbed outside a campus dance was looking forward to being a father and wanted to a part of his daughter's life. Jasper Howard told his girlfriend's father that he was "going to be there for [the baby] 100 percent," after Daneisha Freeman, the 18-year-old seen in this picture, learned she was pregnant. Freeman said she and Howard planned to name the baby Jamiya Tia Howard.

No one has been charged in UConn football star Jasper Howard's death. Police have made just one arrest in connection with the fight. Johnny Hood, 21, of Hartford, Conn., faces charges of breach of peace and interfering with police. He is not charged with the stabbing.

On Oct. 18, 2009, the night of the deadly knife attack, Daneisha Freeman stayed at UConn football player Jasper Howard's apartment. She texted his phone around midnight. "Have fun. Be safe and good." He never texted back. According to UConn police, it was around that time that Howard was fighting for his life, and losing.
