Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees

The nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 were announced on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011.

So who made the cut? Guns 'n Roses, The Cure, Donna Summer and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts are among the 15 nominees.

Who's eligible for this prestigious title? The act must have released it's first single or album 25 years ago to qualify. Artists that released their first single or album in 1986 or earlier were eligible for this year's ballot.

New members will be inducted April 14, 2012 at the 27th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Cleveland.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee Laura Nyro in 1988.

According to last.fm, the late Nyro had the most commercial success as a songwriter, rather than a performer. Her best-known songs include "And When I Die" (made a hit by Blood, Sweat & Tears) and "Stoney End" (covered by Barbra Streisand), among many others.
