Grief
In an overwhelming outpouring of grief and sympathy, over one million bouquets of flowers were left at Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, and St. James's Palace after the tragic automobile accident on August 31, 1997 in which Diana, Princess of Wales, was killed. The flowers, stuffed animals, and bottles of champagne were collected and distributed to children and to the sick and elderly in hospitals and homes.
