Plastic Surgery: 10 Secret Signs
Thanks to Dr. Anthony Youn, a cosmetic surgeon in Troy, Mich., you don't have to wonder. Here are 10 telltale signs of plastic surgery.
Look to the Ears
Want to get to the truth about her plastic surgery? Whisper into her ear and observe. You can't get a face lift without leaving a scar in front of each ear.Sometimes the transition from the smooth, light-colored skin of the ear to the weathered skin on the cheeks can be obvious. Occasionally these scars thicken. (You might want to let her know that scars can sometimes be treated by steroid injections or laser treatments.)
Botox Brow
Your co-worker is such a nice person - why does she suddenly look so angry? Maybe Botox is to blame. If performed incorrectly, injections to the forehead distort the eyebrows, giving what Dr. Youn calls a "sinister look."This can be corrected by a few more injections above the eyebrows, he says. Or she can just wait a few months - Botox is not permanent.
Alternately, in the case of British celebrity Katie Price (pictured), says Dr. Youn, the frozen and slightly intimidating brow could be on purpose.
Surprise!
Does she look surprised - all the time? Is she over 60?Virtually all seniors have some loose, saggy, upper eyelid skin, says Dr. Youn. So, if she's a grandma and her eyes are shut wide open, chances are she's had a voluntary encounter with a scalpel.
Jocelyn Wildenstein (pictured), nicknamed "cat woman," is 62. No eye bags on her!
Raisin Ear
Wrinkly earlobes? During a face lift, surgeons sometimes detach the earlobe from the face, pull the skin tight, and then reattach the earlobe. If done hastily, says Dr.Youn, this can create raisin-like wrinkles in the lobe. If she wants to fix it, she'll need more surgery.Puffy-Face Priscilla Presley
It's rare to find a younger person with the "wind tunnel" look these days. The contemporary extreme is the puffy face. It's easy to spot: The faces of women who have been injected with too much filler look like shiny oven-stuffer roasters.
It should wear off in a few months if she used fillers alone. If she had fat injections, she'll have to have the excess sucked out via liposuction, says Dr. Youn.
Priscilla Presley (pictured) has been quite open about her less-than-happy experiences with fillers.
Pixie Ear
When a surgeon pulls skin too tight, the earlobes may start to droop over time, giving them an elongated look. Maybe your friend wants to look like an extra in the movie "Avatar." If not, more surgery will be necessary.Bunny Nosed Janet Jackson?
When your girlfriend smiles, does she look like Jessica Rabbit?Botox can be injected into the bridge of the nose to get rid of creases, but some people who have this type of injection get rabbit-like creases on the sides of their noses when they laugh and smile.
If this sounds like one of your intimates, tell her she can get more Botox on the sides of her nose, or just wait for the Botox to wear off, says Dr. Youn.

No Turkey Neck?
As we age, the skin of the neck droops, says Dr. Youn, and virtually everyone over the age of 50 has a bit of a gobbler. So if your baby-boomer BFF has a jawline like a razor blade, she's probably had a face lift.Trout Pout
She says she's wearing new lipgloss, the kind that makes your lips swell. Maybe, but there's something odd about her pout.Wait - her upper lip is bigger than her lower one. In nature, says Dr. Youn, the lower lip is usually 50 percent larger than the upper one. So any variation is likely the result of silicone injections.
What puzzles the doc is that young women often have it done this way on purpose, giving them lips that look a bit like actress Lisa Rinna (pictured).
The Windswept Look by Joan Rivers
Does your friend look like she's stuck in a wind tunnel? She may have had an old-school face lift, like Joan Rivers.Back in the day, before synthetic fillers and other developments, surgeons just pulled and stitched.
These days, says Dr. Youn, doctors use fillers and/or fat grafting in addition to tightening. This "three-dimensional" approach yields a more natural look.
