Scotland - GMO birds

Researchers insert a green fluorescent protein into the GMO birds to easily identify them from control birds during experiments. They have found a way to potentially reduce deadly bird-flu infections in some egg-laying chickens by genetically engineering the birds not to replicate the virus inside their bodies.

Kentucky - Kim Davis released

U.S. District Judge David Bunning ordered Davis' release after six days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Upon her release, Bunning told Davis she "shall not interfere in any way, directly or indirectly, with the efforts of her deputy clerks to issue marriage licenses to all legally eligible couples."

A trove of evidence photos taken after the 2012 theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado in which James Holmes killed 12 people and injured more than 70 others were released by the Colorado District Attorney's office this week.
Photos show the auditorium and elaborate homemade explosives found in Holmes' apartment, which he had rigged with potentially-deadly booby traps.
Hungary - migrant tripped

Video showed the Hungarian camerawoman, identified as Petra Laszlo working for Nemzeti Televizio, deliberately putting her leg out.
László was fired after the video came to light. Hungarian prosecutors also announced on September 10 that a criminal case for breach of peace was opened against László.
South Africa - Homo naledi

Fossils of the creature were unearthed in a deep cave near the famed sites of Sterkfontein and Swartkrans, treasure troves 50 km (30 miles) northwest of Johannesburg that have yielded pieces of the puzzle of human evolution for decades.
The new species has been named Homo naledi, in honor of the Rising Star cave where it was found. Naledi means "star" in South Africa's Sesotho language.
Kashmir police detention

Police arrested Kashmiri trade union and separatist leaders after they called a daylong strike to protest a lack of help given by the Indian government to victims of the worst flooding seen in the region in more than a century.
