Death of Cecil the lion

Two hunting party members were arraigned in Zimbabwe while Palmer temporarily closed his office and faced an investigation in both Zimbabwe and the U.S. as well as an extradition request.
Cecil's death created resulted in a firestorm of worldwide criticism of Palmer and a debate about hunting.
South Africa - Desmond Tutu

There were worldwide concerns about the archbishop's health after he was re-admitted to a hospital July 28 complaining about discomfort one week after being discharged for a persistent infection. The Nobel Prize winner, who fought apart apartheid, has battled prostrate cancer since 1997.
Bosnia and Herzegovina - Old Bridge

The 16th-century bridge was destroyed during the war in Bosnia between 1992-1995, rebuilt and opened again in 2004.
Libya - Gaddafi's son convicted

A Libyan court passed a death sentence in absentia on Muammar Gaddafi's most prominent son, Saif al-Islam, for war crimes and acts to crush peaceful protests during the country's 2011 revolution that ended his father's rule.
The court also sentenced eight other former Gaddafi regime officials, including his former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi and ex-prime minister Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi, to death by firing squad on the same charges.

Johnson, 33, and Mayci Breaux, 21, were killed by an Alabama drifter who opened fire inside a crowded movie theater in Lafayette July 23, in the latest act of gun violence to shock the United States.
La Reunion - plane debris found

The two-meter-long debris, identified as part of a wing called a flaperon, was found by employees of an association cleaning the area. Boeing confirmed it came from a 777, the same model plane as Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which went missing in the Indian Ocean on March 8, 2014.
Double hand transplant

Surgeons said Harvey, who lost his limbs to a serious infection, is the youngest patient to receive a double-hand transplant.

A prison guard was stripped of his gun by a member of a gang that is rival to the Mara Salvatrucha criminal gang, and three MS members were injured in the ensuing shootout in the prison area in the basement of the Supreme Court of Justice.
Obama visit Kenya

The two teenagers have been missing since July 24, when they went out on a boat to go fishing from Tequesta, Florida. The search was called off July 31.
Montserrat - scorched ground

The fire, which broke out near the town of Odena, has burned over a thousand hectares, and forced the evacuation of over 800 people, according to local authorities.

Police overcame a group of heavily armed men dressed in military fatigues on July 27 after a 12-hour gun battle that ended in the small-town police station near the border with Pakistan with at least nine people dead.
Cincinnati - Tensing arraigned

Israel - Jewish settlers protest

Israel gave final approval July 29 for plans to build 300 new homes in the Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, announcing the move as it carried out a court demolition order against the two vacant apartment blocs at the site.
Dozens of Jewish settlers have gathered over the past several days at Beit El settlement to protest against the demolition.
West Bank - toddler killed

Colonial settler remains found

Scientists made the discovery of 4 sets of remains of leaders of the settlement and a silver box by digging under the ruins of a historic church. The first Anglican minister of the settlement and relatives of the governor of colonial Virginia were among the men identified.

Mexico - Pachuca Paints Itself

German Crew is the artist collective responsible for painting the mural project. Enrique Gomez, who goes by MYBE, the director of the artist collective, German Crew, responsible for the mural project said the crew has painted 1,500 square meters with 20,000 liters of paint. The project aims to bring the community together and rehabilitate the area.
Samuel DuBose funeral

Dubose was fatally shot by a University of Cincinnati police officer who stopped him for a missing license plate on July 19. The University of Cincinnati police officer who killed Dubose was charged in his death and fired.
Farewell for Lance Corporal Wells

Wells was killed July 16th when Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez opened fire at a Naval Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, slaying Wells and three other Marines. A sailor later died of his wounds.
