Aleppo - Injured boy
A still from a video shared by Aleppo Media Center on Aug. 17, 2016 of five-year-old Omran Daqneesh in an ambulance in Aleppo, Syria which went viral this week.
The boy was rescued from a building in Aleppo after a reported Syrian government or Russian airstrike in a rebel-held area.
Peru - Pastoruri glacier

The melting of glaciers like the Pastoruri has put cities like Huaraz, located downslope from the glacier about 35 miles (55 kilometers) away, at risk from what scientists call a “glof,” or glacial lake outburst flood. A glof occurs when the weak walls of a mountain valley collapse under the weight of meltwater from a glacier.
South Africa

On August 16, 2012 police shot and killed 34 striking Lonmin miners, apparently while trying to disperse them and end their strike. Ten people, including two police officers and two Lonmin security guards, were killed in the preceding week.
California wildfire

Turkey - car bomb

At least three people were killed and another 120 injured. The explosion, blamed by Defence Minister Fikri Isik on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), happened in the garden of the four-storey building in Elazig.

Turkey - Military honor guard
