This photo of the Edgar County Courthouse, located in Paris, Illinois, was taken in April 1862 and is the earliest known photograph of the courthouse that Lincoln practiced law in while on circuit. It shows three town representatives leaving for Pittsburg, Tenn., with medical supplies.
Davis David: Daguerreotype of David Davis, circa 1842. Davis David was a U.S. Senator from Illinois and was appointed as a Supreme Court justice in 1862, during the Lincoln administration. He was known as a friend, mentor, and campaign manager for Abraham Lincoln.
According to a Harper's Weekly article from the era, this is a photo of Gordon, a slave who escaped bondage. His back bears extreme scarring from a beating with a whip.

Joshua Speed: Joshua Fry Speed, of Springfield, Ill., was a close friend of Abraham Lincoln's during his 20's and 30's. Speed wrote of his relationship with Lincoln, "No two men were ever more intimate."
Gettysburg, 1st copy, Union dead at Gettysburg: This group of dead was in "the wheatfield" at Gettysburg. The burial details found many such groups on that terrible field. The work of burying thousand of dead was a Herculean task in itself. The hot July sun made it imperative that the dead should be placed underground as soon as possible. In some cases a little mound of earth was heaped over the bodies as they lay, and after the 1st rain storm the hands and feet of the dead could be seen sticking out from their covering of earth.

Chase Salmon & wife: Chase Salmon served as a U.S. Senator from Ohio as well as the 23rd Governor of Ohio. He was the U.S. Treasury Secretary under President Lincoln and the sixth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
William H. Seward, left, served as Secretary of State under President Lincoln, and was injured in the April, 1865 assassination attempt that killed Lincoln.
