The Ohio teen charged in a series of murders of men who answered an ad on Craigslist will find out if he will be tried as an adult on Dec. 15. Brogan Rafferty, 16, faces juvenile charges of aggravated murder, complicity to aggravated murder, attempted murder and complicity to attempted murder in the death of one man and the shooting of another.
The assignment commissioner of Noble County Probate Court scheduled a Dec. 15 hearing to determine whether the teen should be tried as an adult. Rafferty appeared briefly in court earlier this week but the hearing was postponed because his father, who wasn't present, hadn't received proper notice of new charges filed last week.
Authorities say the teenager was involved in a scheme in which applicants answering a phony Craigslist ad for farm work were robbed, then killed. A second man suspected in the plot, 52-year-old Richard Beasley, appeared in court Friday and pleaded not guilty to unrelated prostitution charges, reports CBS affiliate WOIO. His bond was set at $1 million. Beasley is considered a suspect in the Craigslist killings, but has not yet been charged.
