“Hidden Figures” stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae were joined on stage by 98-year-old Katherine Johnson, the NASA math whiz Henson plays in the film. Johnson received a standing ovation.

After winning the Best Supporting Actor award, the “Moonlight” star thanked his teachers and professors, recounting what they told him: “It’s not about you. It’s about these characters. You’re a servant -- you’re in service to these stories and these characters.”
Viola Davis
The “Fences” star won Best Supporting Actress; it was her first Oscar and third nomination. “We are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life,” Davis said during her acceptance speech.
Kate McKinnon and Jason Bateman
The duo presented the Oscars for best makeup and hairstyling, which went to “Suicide Squad,” and for best costume design, which went to “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
Emma Stone
Stone won Best Actress for her starring role in “La La Land.”
“I realize that a moment like this is a huge confluence of luck and opportunity,” Stone said. “I still have a lot of growing and learning to work to do, and this guy is a really beautiful symbol to continue on that journey.”
Casey Affleck
“Manchester by the Sea” star Casey Affleck gave a humble and soft-spoken acceptance speech when he won Best Actor.
Meryl Streep with Gary from Chicago
As part of a prank during the ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel ushered in tourists who thought they were going to an Oscars exhibit. Gary from Chicago greeted Meryl Streep who was sitting in the front row.
Sting
Sting performed his Oscar-nominated song, “The Empty Chair,” from the documentary, “Jim: The James Foley Story.” Foley was a journalist gruesomely killed by ISIS.
Amy Adams
“Arrivals” star Amy Adams presented the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay to director Barry Jenkins and writer Tarell Alvin McCraney for “Moonlight.”

In a now-infamous Oscars moment, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway took the stage to present the Best Picture award. But they were given the wrong envelope and announced “La La Land” had won the honor. Acceptance speeches were interrupted by the revelation that “Moonlight” was the actual winner.
