2000: American Beauty — Dreamworks Pictures

Kevin Spacey (Lester) and Thora Birch (Jane) in a scene from "American Beauty." The film went on to win the Best Picture Oscar during the Academy Award's 2000 telecast. The film also helped Kevin Spacey land the award for Best Actor for his role as Lester.

2001: Gladiator

In "Gladiator," a once-great Roman general, Maximus (Russell Crowe), goes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge for the murder of his family. The film won the Best Picture Oscar during the Academy Award's 2001 telecast. Russell Crowe, seen here in character, took home the coveted Best Actor award for his performance.

2002: A Beautiful Mind

In "A Beautiful Mind" mathematical genius John Forbes Nash, Jr. (Russell Crowe) learns about love from MIT physics student Alicia Larde (Jennifer Connelly). The film took home the Oscar for Best Picture during the Academy Award's 2002 telecast. Jennifer Connelly took home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the film.

2003: Chicago

Catherine Zeta-Jones performs "All That Jazz," in a scene from "Chicago," the film adaptation of the famous Broadway play of the same name. The film took home the Best Picture Oscar during the Academy Award's 2003 telecast. Catherine Zeta-Jones took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.

2004: The Lord of the Rings

Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) escort Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to the stables of Edoras in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." The third film in the highly successful triology took home the Best Picture Oscar during the Academy Award's 2004 telecast. Peter Jackson also took home the award for Best Director.

2005: Million Dollar Baby

Actor-director Clint Eastwood, left, actor Morgan Freeman, center, and actress Hilary Swank in a scene from "Million Dollar Baby." The film took home the Oscar for Best Picture during the Academy Award's 2005 telecast. Morgan Freeman went home with an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and Hilary Swank walked away with her second Best Actress Oscar.

2006: Crash

Thandie Newton and Matt Dillon in Lions Gate Films' "Crash," a film that looked at how people can be born with good hearts but grow up and learn prejudices. The film took home the Best Picture Oscar during the Academy Award's 2006 telecast.

2007: The Departed

Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Departed." The film follows the story of two men from opposite sides of the law and what happens when their paths cross. The film took home the Oscar for Best Picture, and landed Martin Scorsese his much-anticipated Oscar for Best Director during the Academy Award's 2007 telecast.

2008: No Country for Old Men

Javier Bardem in a scene from the movie "No Country for Old Men," where he plays the role of psychopathic serial killer Anton Chigurh. The film took home the Oscar for Best Picture during the Academy Award's 2008 telecast. Javier Bardem received the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the film.

2009: Slumdog Millionaire

In "Slumdog Millionaire," Jamal (right) becomes a contestent on India's version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." One question away from winning it all, Jamal is arrested under suspicion of cheating and has to explain how an orphan from the slums can possibly know all the answers. The film went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture during the Academy Award's 2009 telecast.
