Nobel Peace Prize 2011
This year's Nobel Peace Prize winners include Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee, Tawakkol Karman of Yemen and Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. The women were honored on Dec. 10 in two ceremonies in the Swedish and Norwegian capitals. The next day, a tribute concert was held in Oslo, featuring performances by David Gray, Sugarland, Jill Scott and others.
The peace prize committee awarded the prize to Karman, Johnson-Sirleaf and Gbowee for championing women's rights in regions where oppression is common and helping women participate in peace building.
