Nanny charged in fatal stabbings of 2 NYC kids
Yoselyn Ortega, 50, was formally charged on Nov. 3, 2012 with two counts each of first- and second-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of 6-year-old Lucia and 2-year-old Leo Krim. Police said Marina Karim, the victims' mother and her 3-year-old child Nessie returned to their luxury New York City apartment building on Oct. 25, 2012 and found the children stabbed to death in a bathtub. Their nanny, Ortega, lay wounded nearby with self-inflicted stab wounds. Police said a kitchen knife was close by. Ortega has pleaded not guilty to murder and her sister has said she loved the children and was a peaceful woman. Ortega was examined by two mental health professionals and was found fit to stand trial.
