Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba, an 18-year-old Miami college student who went missing at 2 a.m. on Oct. 11, 2009, has been found dead, according to her father who posted a message on Facebook.
Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba, 18, had graduated from G. Holmes Braddock High School in 2009 where she was a cheerleader and a member of the debate team. She had recently begun her undergraduate studies at Florida International University.
Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba was last seen on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2 a.m. at Space Night Club, according to friends who used Twitter and Facebook to spread the word of her disappearance.
Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba had been dating a popular disc-jockey, DJ Seasunz, seen here in a photo provided by the National Society for Hispanic Professionals. Police have charged 30-year-old Juan Carlos Portieles with Torrealba's murder. Crimesider cannot yet confirm if Portieles and DJ Seasunz is the same person, as some Facebook posts have suggested.
Friends say that Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba, a freshman at Florida International University, was a "smart girl" who was toying with the idea of becoming a lawyer. According to Melissa Saavedra, Torrealba was a hip-hop dancer and cheerleader in high school. "Jackie was such an amazing girl. She always had a smile on her face she was funny, she was a great dancer," she told Crimesider in a Monday phone interview.
Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba's father, Pablo Torrealba, wrote on his daughter's Facebook profile, confirming her death. "Our beloved Jaclyn was abruptly and much too prematurely taken away from us, the victim ...of an incomprehensible act of violence," he wrote.
According to friends, Jaclyn Elisse Torrealba was at the top of her class in high school, where her father also taught biology. Her high school classmate Andres Tamayo told Crimesider in a phone interview Monday, Oct. 12 that she was in the top 10 percent of her high school class and had been accepted to the University of Miami, but had chosen to attend Florida International University.
