First lady Melania Trump has spent an increasing amount of time in the spotlight after a flurry of media reports noting her frequent absence at key events.

Attending the inauguration ...
Trump was by her husband's side during a full day of inauguration events on Jan. 20, 2017.

In New York for first half of 2017
Trump has said she wanted to keep living in New York's Trump Tower until her son Barron Trump, 11, finished the school year.
She was the only first lady who did not lived in the White House besides Anna Harrison, who was too ill to move to the White House with her husband in 1841.
She and Barron moved to the White House in June 2017.
Hiring ... slowly
On Feb. 1, 2017, Trump announced she had hired Lindsay Reynolds as her chief of staff. Most first ladies have the position filled before the inauguration.
"I am putting together a professional and highly-experienced team which will take time to do properly," Trump said in a statement.
Prepping to move in
Her delay in putting together a staff to answer media requests led to rumors that she might not move to Washington at all–rumors that were quickly disputed.
She has hired a White House social secretary, a senior adviser and an interior designer.
Attending a charity gala
The Trumps dressed up on Feb. 4, 2017, for the 60th Annual Red Cross Gala at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Super Bowl partying
Trump watched the Super Bowl at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Feb. 5, 2017.
Welcoming Japanese dignitaries
Trump took a trip on Feb. 11, 2017, to Mar-a-Lago with her husband, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe.
Trump and Akie Abe toured the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, Florida. Afterwards, the two had lunch together.

Reading to children
On March 2, 2017, Trump visited the pediatric wing of a New York hospital to read the Dr. Seuss book "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" to children in celebration of National Read Across America Day.
It was her first solo public outing as first lady.
Hosting a women's luncheon
Trump hosted a luncheon for about 50 women at the White House on March 8, 2017, to mark International Women's Day.
She made remarks at the event, but only after the press was escorted out of the room.

In a brief speech, Trump said the honorees are "remarkable and inspiring women who have given so much for so many, regardless of the unimaginable threat to their own personal safety."
Getting her photo taken
On April 3, 2017, the White House released Melania Trump's official portrait.
A White House statement didn't say when the picture was taken, but said it was taken "in her new residence at the White House."
Hosting a king and queen
Trump and the president hosted King Abdullah II of Jordan and Queen Rania of Jordan at the White House on April 5, 2017.
Visiting a school
Trump and Queen Rania later visited the Excel Academy Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., with Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

Shortly before her remarks, the first lady appeared to subtly nudge the president to remind him to place his hand over his heart during the national anthem.
