Navy SEAL receives Medal of Honor
Navy Senior Chief Edward Byers Jr., 36, received the Medal of Honor, the highest medal for valor on Feb. 29, 2016, for his actions rescuing an American hostage held by the Taliban in Afghanistan in a December 2012 mission.

The hostage, Dr. Dilip Joseph, was rescued by SEAL Team Six, but the mission resulted in the death of one team member.

Among Byers' heroic actions during the mission was throwing himself on top of the hostage to protect him from bullets flying.

Byers was honored for his courageous actions that involved hand-to-hand combat in Afghanistan on December 8-9, 2012.
