Harold Ramis: 1944-2014

Ramis, an acclaimed writer, director and actor, died on Feb. 24, 2014, in Chicago from complications of autoimmune inflammatory disease, according United Talent Agency.

"National Lampoon's Animal House"

Ramis was one of the writers on "National Lampoon's Animal House," the 1978 hit comedy directed by John Landis. It starred John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Verna Bloom, Thomas Hulce and Donald Sutherland.

"Caddyshack"

Ramis directed 1980's "Caddyshack" with Chevy Chase and Bill Murray.

"Stripes"

Ramis, seen here with Bill Murray, in a scene from the 1981 American war-comedy "Stripes," which also starred John Candy. Ramis also co-wrote the screenplay for the film.

Ramis directed the 1983 big-screen comedy "National Lampoon's Vacation," starring Chevy Chase.

Ramis directed 2005's "The Ice Harvest" with John Cusack, Billy Bob Thorton and Connie Nielsen.

"Multiplicity"

Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell were among the stars in 1996's "Multiplicity," a film directed by Ramis.

Ramis directed "Analyze This," the 1999 crime-comedy with Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal.

"Analyze That"

"Analyze That" -- the sequel to "Analyze This" -- was directed again by Ramis with Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal reprising their roles.

Ramis co-wrote four of the American Film Institute's 100 Funniest Movies: Ghostbusters (1984) at No. 28, Groundhog Day (1993) at No. 34, Animal House (1978) at No. 36 and Caddyshack(1980) at No. 71.
