Crimes at fast food restaurants

Geoffrey Weglarz, a 56-year-old Fairfield, Conn. man, was arrested on March 26, 2013 after police said he became enraged and threw his food at a pregnant McDonald's worker, CBS New York reports. Police say, after Weglarz drove off with his food, he returned moments later and banged on the front door of the restaurant -- which was locked -- and then proceeded to yell and swear at the manager of the restaurant through the drive-thru window. Weglarz reportedly fled the scene before police arrived, but police later arrested him at his home and charged him with breach of peace.

"Hamburglar" hits Maine McDonald's

Police say a young man, seemingly inspired by the pattie-pilfering character once featured in McDonald's advertising campaigns, ran between a car and the takeout window at an Augusta, Maine restaurant in March 2012 just as an employee tried to hand a bag of food to a driver. Police later found the suspect in the parking lot of a rival fast food restaurant diving into the McDonald's bag. When the suspect saw police, he ran off into the woods and was never caught.

Burger King "Bikini Brawler"

Nekiva Hardy was accused of starting a brawl at a Burger King in Panama City Beach, Fla. in March 2011 - while wearing a bikini. The incident was caught on video and shows Hardy, of Montgomery, Ala., hitting and throwing items at employees, jumping onto the counter and hitting someone with a large container. One of the fast food chain's employees reportedly told authorities Smith was complaining about her order when the fight began. CBS affiliate WAKA reported Hardy was charged with two felony charges of giving a false name to law enforcement and criminal mischief, plus other misdemeanor charges. She was also fined more than $4,000 in restitution and court costs. Hardy pleaded no-contest and was banned from the fast-food chain.

Samurai sword vs. Church's Chicken

In Oct. 2012, authorities say a man robbed a fast food restaurant in Kansas City with a samurai sword. Police said a man entered a Church's Chicken and demanded money from the register, CBS affiliate KCTV reports. The suspect then fled the scene. It is unclear if the man was ever identified or caught.

Wendy's fast food brawl

Police say a fight broke out at a Wendy's in Kalamazoo, Mich. in June 2010 that resulted in two people getting arrested. It all started when four customers in a vehicle at the drive-thru claimed their order was incorrect. Police said the disgruntled diners hurled food and drinks at an employee inside. According to police, the employee retaliated by hitting the vehicle with a drink, ketchup and fries. The fight moved inside and police eventually arrived and charged two of the customers with assault.

Burger King robber gets whopper

An Arkansas man allegedly tried to hold up a Pine Bluff Burger King in May 2010, but was caught by surprise when a worker reportedly grabbed the man's gun and fired at him. The robbery suspect, 22-year-old Jason Robinson, was treated for a thigh wound and taken to jail, police said.

Man who broke into restaurant: "I was hungry"

Hachem Gomez broke into a suburban Chicago restaurant in Sept. 2011, poured himself a soda, popped some chicken tenders in the microwave, and then stood stunned when the alarm went off. Police say when they arrived at Mr. Beef & Pizza in Mount Prospect, they found the suspect in his boxer shorts. Gomez allegedly told police he broke in because he was hungry. Gomez was charged with burglary.

Wendy's robber complains about amount he stole

Police say a man allegedly walked up to the drive-through window of the restaurant in August 2010, wearing a ski mask and holding a gun. He demanded the cash drawer, grabbed it and ran away. But the man was apparently unhappy with his loot and called the restaurant twice after the robbery, complaining that he hadn't gotten enough money. Police say in one call he said that "next time there better be more than $586."

Fatal shooting at Church's Chicken

Authorities say a gunman opened fire in an Englewood, Ill. Church's Chicken in Dec. 2011, killing two people and wounding five others. CBS Chicago reports that according to police, the shooting started with an argument in the parking lot of the restaurant. One of the men then allegedly chased the other inside and opened fire, hitting seven people. The victims were between the ages of 16 and 58, police said, and two unidentified boys, ages 16 and 17, were dead at the scene. The shooting was the result of a gang-related fight between the gunman and one of the victims, police said. Arthur Chaney, 23, of was later arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder in the incident, CBS Chicago reports.
