In a statement, Prejean also says the attacks on her and others who "speak in defense of traditional marriage" are intolerant and offensive.

Prejean has defended the comments she made regarding same-sex marriage at the 2009 Miss USA Pageant. When she appeared on The Today Show on April 21, 2009, she told host Matt Lauer, "It's not about being politically correct; it's about being biblically correct."

Prejean has said that her answer to a question asked by Perez Hilton about legalizing same-sex marriage during the 2009 Miss USA Pageant cost her the crown.

She said, "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage...I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."
