On Feb. 23, 2010, authorities say suspect Bruco Strongeagle Eastwood walked through a middle school parking lot in Littleton, Colo., taking shots at students with a hunting rifle as terrified teenagers ran for their lives. Two Deer Creek Middle School students, Matt Thieu and Reagan Webber, were wounded. A math teacher tackled Eastwood and pinned him to the ground, stopping what could have been a much more violent encounter in an area all too familiar with tragic school shootings.

Math teacher David Benke says he had no time to fear for his life when he tackled a man he said was preparing to reload a rifle to shoot students who were heading home for the day at a Colorado middle school. Jefferson County Sheriff Ted Mink praised Benke, father of 7-year-old twins and a 13-year-old girl, calling him a hero.
