Celebrities react to Donald Trump win
Celebrity reaction to Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election ran the gamut.
Some Trump fans gloated. Some Clinton supporters wailed. Others offered hope and promises of compassion.
Lady Gaga, who changed her Twitter display name from “#VoteHillary” to “#CountryofKindness,” urged the nation to “say a prayer.”
“I want to live in a #CountryOfKindness where #LoveTrumpsHate,” she later tweeted and pinned to the top of her profile.
Jon Stewart: Surprised
Stewart, the former host of “The Daily Show,” said his reaction to Trump winning the election was “surprise.”
“I feel badly for the people for whom this election will mean more uncertainty and insecurity,” Stewart said on “CBS This Morning.”
Stewart added that Trump is “not a Republican,” but a “repudiation of Republicans.”
Lena Dunham: "Mourning"
In an essay in her “Lenny” newsletter, Lena Dunham wrote: “Wednesday was a day of mourning. Thursday, too. Hell, I’m giving us till Sunday. But then we fight.”
“It’s hard to feel it this week,” wrote the staunch Clinton supporter. “It may be hard to feel it next week. But ... the dream of changing the face of the White House, is only just beginning.”
Wanda Sykes: "We've elected a racist"
“I am certain this is not the first time we’ve elected a racist, sexist, homophobic president,” Sykes said during a stand up routine in Boston. “He ain’t the first one. He’s just the first confirmed one.”
When members of the audience started booing her remarks, she cursed at them, and later waved her middle finger as she left stage.
Azealia Banks: "Proud"
Banks, who endorsed Trump, took to Instagram to say she was “proud” of him.
“I am TRULY inspired by this and feel deep amounts of vindication,” she added.
John Oliver: Trump presidency "not normal"
John Oliver spent the season finale of his show “Last Week Tonight” criticizing Trump.
Oliver said that the optimism some Americans are trying to embrace is “nice,” but said such sentiments could “feed into the normalization of Donald Trump.”
Trump’s presidency “is not normal,” Oliver said.
Oprah Winfrey: "Take a deep breath"
“I just saw President-elect Trump with President Obama in the White House and it gave me hope,” said Winfrey, who endorsed Clinton.
“To hear President Obama say that he has renewed confidence in the peaceful transition, I think everybody can take a deep breath,” she said. “Everybody can take a deep breath now! Thank you.”
Trevor Noah: "The end of the world"
“This is it, the end of the presidential race, and it feels like the end of the world,” Noah said during his election night special, as it became clear Trump was winning.
Amy Schumer
“I am grieving today. My heart is in a million pieces,” said Schumer, a vocal Clinton supporter
“Literally. I am furious,” Schumer continued in a lengthy Instagram post. “Today we grieve, tomorrow we begin again.”
Katy Perry: "Do not sit still"
Perry, a vocal Clinton supporter, posted on Twitter: “Do not weep. MOVE. We are not a nation that will let HATE lead us.”
Miley Cyrus: "I accept you"
Cyrus posted a tearful video to Twitter in which she said in part: “Donald Trump, I accept you. And that’s hard to say but I even accept you as the president of the United States, and that’s fine.”
“Just treat people with love and treat people with compassion and respect, and I will do the same for you,” Cyrus, who campaigned for Clinton, added.
Jennifer Lawrence: "Let this enrage you"
“Do not let this defeat you — let this enrage you,” Lawrence wrote in an open letter to Clinton supporters.
“Let it motivate you. Let this be the fire you didn’t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman — don’t be afraid, be loud,” she wrote.
Aaron Sorkin: "We’ve embarrassed ourselves"
Sorkin wrote a letter to his daughter that swiftly went viral.
“We’ve embarrassed ourselves in front of our children and the world,” the writer and director said.
“Well, the world changed late last night in a way I couldn’t protect us from. That’s a terrible feeling for a father,” he wrote.
Stephen Colbert: "This sucks"
“This is what it feels like when America’s made great again. I was wondering, and I was really hoping it would feel better because this sucks,” Colbert said on his show.
“Don’t ever be cowed by what happens in the next four years,” he added.
Ellen DeGeneres
DeGeneres offered a message of hope on her show.
“People have been very passionate about this race, and I think it’s because we all love our country — we just have different ideas about what’s best for it,” DeGeneres said.
“And I believe we can all come together, because if you take away the labels, you realize we’re far more alike than we are different,” she added.
Amanda Seyfried
“Maybe this is rock bottom and there’s no where to go but up,” Seyfried tweeted.
LeBron James: "We will be alright"

Jesse Tyler Ferguson: Grieving
Ferguson said he was “taking tonight to grieve for minorities, women, immigrants, muslims & the LGBTQ community but tomorrow I’m waking up ready to fight.”
“No sense in the media rehashing all the terrible things trump has said, done & tweeted. America heard it and still elected him,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
Stephen Baldwin: "Proud"
Baldwin, a Trump supporter, tweeted a video of the Trump family taking the stage before Trump’s victory speech. “God bless America ... & our 45th President of the USA & the new first family,” he wrote.
“Proud to have been a part of such amazing history,” he had tweeted earlier as a Trump win became likely.
