Bing's Most Searched List 2011

Justin Bieber was the most searched person of 2011, according to Internet search engine Bing. Bieber had landed at No. 6 in 2010, a sign that "Bieber Fever" isn't cooling off anytime soon. The 17-year-old star, who's been the target of a paternity scandal, was the only male celebrity to make this year's top 10 list.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian was the second most searched person of 2011, according to Internet search engine Bing. Between her marriage and subsequent divorce (just 72 days later), the reality star made countless headlines this year.

Rounding out the top 10 were actresses Jennifer Aniston, Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox, along with music artists Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.

Casey Anthony trial

The Casey Anthony trial was the most searched news story of 2011, according to Bing. America was glued to the TV and Internet throughout the trial, which saw the Florida mother get acquitted of charges she killed her own child. On July 5, 2011, a jury found Casey not guilty of murdering her daughter, Caylee Anthony, 2, in the summer of 2008.

Osama bin Laden death

Bing ranked Osama bin Laden's death as the second most searched news term of the year. President Barack Obama announced on May 1, 2011, that the most hunted man in the world and mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks was killed in a firefight with United States special forces in Pakistan.

Right behind bin Laden's death were Hurricane Irene, the Japan earthquake/tsunami, Amy Winehouse's death, the tornado in Joplin, Missouri, the Michael Jackson trial/Dr. Conrad Murray, 9/11 10-year anniversary, Republican Candidates Herman Cain and Rick Perry and the anniversary of the Haiti earthquake.

Maria Sharapova

Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova was the most searched sports star, according to Bing. She's currently ranked number four in the world.

Tiger Woods

Bing named Tiger Woods the second most searched athlete of 2011. Back in 2010, he made the top 10 list of most searched people. But now that his cheating scandal has subsided, Woods is keeping a low-profile on the golf course and staying away from the club scene.

Other popular athletes of 2011 were tennis star Serena Williams, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre, tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, along with NBA stars Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Lamar Odom. Rounding out the top 10 was soccer player and former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Hope Solo, as well as basketball player Carmelo Anthony.

Justin Bieber

It comes as no surprise that Justin Bieber also topped this year's list of most searched musicians on Bing.

Katy Perry

Fans scoured the Internet for Katy Perry news in 2011. She was the second most searched musician on Bing thanks to a very successful year. The California native became the first female music artist to have five No. 1 hits off of one album.

The other music artists in the top 10 musician list were Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

"American Idol"

The excitement surrounding "American Idol" continued in 2011. The Fox reality competition was the most searched TV show of 2011, according to Bing. Scotty McCreery won the "American Idol" finale on May 25, 2011, in Los Angeles.

"Dancing with the Stars"

"Dancing with the Stars" was the second most popular online TV show search, according to Bing. War veteran J.R. Martinez was crowned the winner of the 13th season on Nov. 22, 2011.

Other popular TV show searches in 2011 included "Glee," "Jersey Shore," "Family Guy," "Chelsea Handler," "The Young and the Restless," "True Blood," "Audrina" and "Big Brother."

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian captivated fans with her reality show marriage and divorce in 2011, making her Bing's most searched reality star of the year.

Kate Gosselin

Bing named Kate Gosselin the second most searched reality star of 2011. Despite the cancellation of her TLC series, "Kate Plus 8," fans still wanted news on the mother of eight. By November, she was denying rumors of a facelift.

Other reality stars on Bing's 2011 list included Khloe Kardashian, Heidi Montag, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendra Wilkinson, Snooki (Nicole Polizzi), Kristin Cavallari, Audrina Patridge and Tori Spelling.

Royal Wedding

The royal wedding was the most search celebrity event of 2011, according to Bing. Kate Middleton (now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge) married Prince William on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London.

Harry Potter

The premiere of the final Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," was the second most celebrity event, even beating out Kim Kardashian's marriage, which landed in second place.
The other popular 2011 events searched on Bing included Beyonce's baby bump, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson dating, Kate Hudson's baby bump, Lady Gaga's egg arrival at the Grammys, Lindsay Lohan's arrest and Russell Armstrong's suicide.

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol"

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" doesn't hit theaters until Dec. 21, 2011, but the hype surrounding the film made it the most searched movie of 2010 on Bing. The flick stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames and Tom Wilkinson.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1"

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" was the second most searched movie of 2011, according to Bing. The movie, which landed in theaters on Nov. 18, 2011, finds the main characters, played by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, navigating the troubles surrounding marriage and pregnancy.

Rounding out the top 10 online movie searches were "The Hangover Part 2," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2," "The Help," "The Smurfs," "X Men: First Class," "Just Go With It" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

Wendy Williams

"The Wendy Williams Show" was the most searched daytime talk show of 2011, according to Bing.

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the second most searched daytime talk show of the year, reports Bing.

Also making the daytime talk show search list were Anderson Cooper, Rachael Ray, Rosie O'Donnell, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, "The View," Nate Berkus, "The Talk" and Gayle King.

Chelsea Handler

Bing named Chelsea Handler's "Chelsea Lately" series on E! the most searched late night show of 2011. Her contract extends through 2014.

David Letterman

"Late Show with David Letterman" on CBS was the second most popular late night TV show searched online, according to Bing.

Other late night stars who made the cut were Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart, Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Craig Ferguson.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith tied with Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber as the most searched celebrity couple of 2011, according to Bing. The longtime pair made many tabloid headlines in 2011. There was talk of a divorce, and even rumors of Jada having an affair with Jennifer Lopez's ex, Marc Anthony. But the couple insists their marriage is still intact.

After playing coy for months, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber went public with their relationship in 2011. They tied with the Smiths for the most searched celebrity couple of 2011.

The royal couple, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, came in third.

Rebecca Black's "Friday" video

Rebecca Black's "Friday" was the most searched viral video of 2011, according to Bing. The Auto-Tune-heavy song has more than 9 million YouTube views and counting.

Las Vegas

The most searched vacation destination of 2011? Las Vegas, according to Bing. The top searched destinations around the world included Singapore; Alexandria, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; Cancun, Mexico; Paris, France; Dubai, UAE and Lima, Peru.

Xbox

Xbox was the most searched consumer electronics product of the year on Bing, beating out Playstation and Wii as the favorite games console of the year.
