2014: Tonalist
In 2014, Tonalist #11, ridden by Joel Rosario, raced to the finish line en route to winning the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park on June 7, 2014 in Elmont, New York. Tonalist won a purse of $1,500,000, a big increase from the $500,000 purse for the 2013 winner.
Many Race viewers had hopes that California Chrome would complete the third leg of the Triple Crown after beating the field in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. The horse came in a disappointingly tied for fourth with Wicked Strong.
