Barbra's Boys?

An unauthorized biography of Barbra Streisand sets forth an astonishing list of high-powered men who, the author says, have been linked with the diva at one time or another. Here are some of the names named by Christopher Andersen in his book, "Barbra: The Way She Is."

Of tennis champ Andre Agassi, Streisand once said: "He plays like a Zen master. He's very in the moment." She even dropped in on the U.S. Open in September 1992 to watch him play a match with Carlos Costa. Agassi went on to marry (and divorce) actress Brooke Shields. He is currently wed to fellow tennis star Steffi Graf. They have two children.

In an interview with Playboy magazine in the '70s, Streisand characterized Warren Beatty as "one of my flings." Beatty himself was a notorious showbiz Lothario until his marriage to actress Annette Bening in 1992. They have four children.

Streisand served a hot drink to Prince Charles on a set at Warner Bros. studio in Los Angeles on March 19, 1974. The two were briefly romantically linked, Anderson writes. Charles was famously married to and divorced from Princess Diana. On April 9, 2005, he married his longtime mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles.

While Anderson stops short of writing that Bill Clinton and Streisand had an affair, he does claim that Hillary made a rule that Streisand could not visit the White House unless she, Hillary, was in residence.

Don Johnson and Streisand got together in 1988, and they even cut a record together ("Till I Loved You"). But Andersen claims Johnson broke Streisand's heart when he ended their romance to go back to Melanie Griffith. (Johnson and Griffith were married and divorced twice.) Griffith currently is married to Antonio Banderas and Johnson to the former Mary Kelley Phleger.

It seems every time you turn around, someone is claiming that yet another famous woman had an affair with Elvis Presley. At the very least, it's certain that Streisand met the King, because he was her original choice to play the lead opposite her in the remake of "A Star Is Born."

If, as Anderson claims, actor Richard Gere was one of Streisand's boyfriends, they probably had no problem discussing politics. Both are outspoken Hollywood liberals. Later in life, Gere was famously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford for four years until their divorce in December 1995. He has been married since 2002 to actress Carey Lowell. They have a son, Homer.

Elliott Gould and Streisand were married from 1963 to 1971, and he is the father of Streisand's only child, Jason. Gould has two other children with actress Jenny Bogart.

Streisand briefly dated ABC News anchor Peter Jennings in the '90s. Rumor has it that when she spoke at Harvard in February 1995, Jennings helped her write her speech. But, after all, what are boyfriends for? Jennings' distinguished career in journalism ended with his death at age 67 on Aug. 7, 2005.

Here is a very well-known publicity shot from "A Star Is Born" (1977), starring Kris Kristofferson and you-know-who. Kristofferson is married to his third wife, Lisa. He is the father of eight children. His second marriage was to singer Rita Coolidge.

Steve McQueen and Streisand, who had an agent in common in the '70s, were cast together in a movie called "The Gauntlet," but they didn't get along and the film wasn't made until Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke picked it up years later. Isn't it romantic? McQueen, only 50 when he died in 1980, was married three times, most famously to Ali MacGraw from 1973 to 1978.

Liam Neeson dated Streisand briefly before he married Natasha Richardson in 1994. They are still together and they have two children.

As any self-respecting Streisand fan can tell you, Omar Sharif was Streisand's leading man in the movie "Funny Girl" (1968), for which she won an Academy Award. But while it certainly brought her an Oscar, it did not ultimately bring her an Omar. Any romantic connection was fleeting. Sharif, who has become an international expert in the game of bridge, has been married and divorced once.

Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau briefly dated Streisand in the early '70s. (He also dated actress Margot Kidder.) At age 52, Trudeau married Margaret Sinclair, a 22-year-old he had met while vacationing in Tahiti. They later divorced. Trudeau died Sept. 28, 2000. He was 80.

Ryan O'Neal made a couple of movies with Streisand and, although there was a spark and a romance, a friendship grew and outlasted the passion. O'Neal is famously the father of Tatum and the former mate of Farrah Fawcett.

If this is true, just think: Streisand might have been the potential stepmother-in-law of Brad Pitt. If she and Jon Voight were, indeed, romantically involved, don't you wonder if she ever met his daughter? Did little Angelina curtsy to Daddy's friend? Most recently, Voight was busy denying a romance with diva Diana Ross while promoting a TV movie in which he starred as Pope John Paul.

RoboCop? La Streisand dated RoboCop? According to the unauthorized biography, yes, actor Peter Weller is an old flame. He also has dated actresses Sela Ward and Ali MacGraw. And he has certainly played roles other than RoboCop, both on the big screen and on the stage.

Ah! Here we go! A happy landing in the arms of actor James Brolin, to whom Streisand has been married since July 1, 1998. She has said that with Brolin, she is no longer afraid to love. And Brolin has said, "Any girl that's got a $500,000 table and $5 shoes, I'm in love with."
