And the year's best movie poster is ...

The rather pithy visual symbolism advertising Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married Too," created by the Ignition agency for Lionsgate, is one of the finalists of the Hollywood Reporter's 40th annual Key Art Awards, honoring achievements in movie advertising, including best designs in movie posters.

"Key Art" refers to the image on which a film's marketing materials are based - a painting, graphic, photo or montage that takes center stage on the film's poster, newspaper ads, and lobby displays, such as in this one-sheet poster for "From Paris With Love."

Juries comprised of senior level creatives in marketing and design will decide from among the finalists announced September 23, 2011. The entries cover advertising campaigns from January 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011.

For Art Direction, this gold-themed poster for "The Devil's Double," about a man forced to impersonate Uday Hussein, the ruthless son of Saddam Hussein, was nominated.

Everybody in the pool! BLT produced this poster for "Toy Story 3."

The thriller "Buried" was cited both for its teaser poster (far left), and the typography of the poster featuring critics' quotes - each poster accentuates the claustrophobia of the protagonist who is, alas, buried alive.

The bpg agency designed this striking one-sheet for the feature documentary about the role music plays in the lives of convicts at Louisiana's Angola Prison, "Music From the Big House."

In addition to theatrical releases, posters for television series are also judged. One finalist is this poster of Hugh Laurie for "House" (Arsonal Agency).

The Iconisus L&Y agency produced this poster for the series "Nip/Tuck."

The superhero comedy "Super" garnered a nomination for this one sheet from Mojo.

When campaigning for a Best Picture Oscar last year for "Toy Story 3," Disney's For Your Consideration ads sought to remind Academy voters of other highly-esteemed Best Picture winners by featuring cast members in re-enactments of such films as "Titanic," "Shakespeare in Love" and "Silence of the Lambs."

The Tomasz Opasinski agency designed this striking film festival poster for the Poznan International Film and Music Festival.

The cable channel Turner Classic Movies produced a series of posters to advertise its classic film festival, with high contrast silhouettes of movie icons, from "Singing in the Rain" to "Saturday Night Fever." (Canyon Design Group)

Winners of the Key Art Awards will be announced October 19, 2011, at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome & Boulevard 3 theatre in Los Angeles.
