America's most stressed-out states
Stress affects everyone, but some environments are more toxic than others. A new analysis from WalletHub ranks the most stressed-out states in America.
Researchers looked at data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 33 key indicators, ranging from the average number of hours worked per week to the personal bankruptcy rate to the share of adults getting adequate sleep.

10. Arkansas
The countdown of the 10 most stressed-out states starts with Arkansas. This state rates high in health and safety-related stress, with the second highest percentage of adults in fair/poor health.
9. Tennessee
Tennessee ranks number nine on the list, with residents reporting high levels of money-related stress.
8. Georgia
Georgia residents also report high levels of family-related stress, making it the eighth most stressed-out state in the country.
7. Nevada
High levels of family-related stress helped propel Nevada into the top 10. With the second highest divorce rate in the country, it ranks at number seven when it comes to overall stress in the WalletHub rankings.
6. New Mexico
New Mexico ranks sixth, with a a particularly high percentage of its population living below the poverty line and one of the highest crime rates per capita.
5. Kentucky
Why are Kentucky residents feeling stressed? They have the lowest job security in the nation, according to the WalletHub data, and they get fewer hours of sleep per night than most other Americans.
4. West Virginia
Ranking as the state with highest health and safety-related stress, West Virginia landed in fourth place for overall stress. West Virginia also has the highest percentage of adults in fair/poor health.
3. Mississippi
Mississippi is in third place, with residents reporting the highest rates of money-related stress. The state also has the highest percentage of the population living below the poverty line, and the lowest credit scores in the country.
2. Louisiana
New Orleans calls itself “The Big Easy,” but life can be hard in Louisiana, which ranked second on the list of most stressed states in the nation. Residents report high levels of work-related stress. The state also has the fewest psychologists per capita in the country.

Alabama is the most stressed-out state in the country in the WalletHub rankings. Residents report particularly high levels of money-related stress, as well as work and family-related stress.
