Latest air travel nightmares
A flight attendant on a United Airlines/Trans State regional flight in May 2018 was reportedly acting "out of control" and confronted a passenger, according to another passenger who posted pictures and cellphone video of the incident.
Trans States Airlines said it was aware of reports of the flight attendant's "erratic behavior" and that the situation is under investigation.
United said in a statement, "As a gesture of goodwill, we have compensated all customers aboard the flight and we apologize for any inconvenience or distress this may have caused."
Dog dies during layover
An 8-year-old Pomeranian named Alejandro died during a Delta flight layover in June 2018.
In a statement, Delta said it is "conducting a thorough review of the situation to ensure this does not happen again and have been working directly with Alejandro's family to support them however we can."
Smoke prompts evacuation
A Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Denver was evacuated in May 2018 after passengers reported smoke in the cabin. Firefighters greeted the flight when it landed at Denver International Airport.
Some passengers stood on the plane's wing during the evacuation.
Woman threatens to kill everyone on flight
A woman on a Southwest Airlines flight from Portland to Sacramento started yelling and threatened to kill everyone on board after she was caught tampering with the smoke detector so she could smoke in the bathroom.
Valerie Curbelo, 24, was arrested at the gate when the plane landed safely about 30 minutes after the incident.
Woman forcibly removed from Southwest flight
A woman was forcibly removed by police from a Southwest Airlines flight in September 2017 after saying she had a life-threatening animal allergy. There was one pet and one service animal on board.
A fellow passenger recorded the incident. The video shows police officers grabbing the woman's arms and holding her by the chest as they push her down the aisle of the plane. Southwest said it was sorry for how the situation was handled.
Brawl breaks out near Sprit check-in counter
Agitated Spirit Airlines customers broke out into a massive brawl at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida airport after the airline canceled nine flights.
The cancellations stemmed from a May dispute between Spirit and its pilots.
Puppy dies in overhead bin
A family's French bulldog puppy died in its carrier after a United Airlines flight attendant told them to put the bag holding the dog in an overhead bin on a flight from Houston to New York in March 2018.
United apologized for the dog's death, calling it a "tragic accident that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin."
Snake on a plane
A snake caused a commotion when it made its way onto an Alaska Airlines flight in a passenger's carry-on bag in March.
Crisis averted
A flight attendant discovered the snake and placed it into a trash bag for the remainder of the 90-minute flight.
The airline did not say whether the snake's owner would face charges.
Entire JetBlue flight deplaned over cake
An entire JetBlue flight had to deplane in May after a dispute over a birthday cake. The airlines said a family stowed a birthday cake in a bin reserved for emergency equipment and refused a request from the crew to move it; the family says it moved the cake but was kicked off the plane anyway -- along with everyone else.
"After the customers refused to speak with a team leader about the situation, the Port Authority Police Department was called and the entire aircraft deplaned," a JetBlue statement said.
The other passengers reboarded and continued on their trip. JetBlue says the family that was removed received a refund.
Fight aboard a Delta flight
Two people, including a flight attendant, were injured on a July 6 Delta flight from Seattle to Beijing after a passenger lunged for the exit door and then fought with people who tried to restrain him.
This photo shows the aftermath of the bizarre situation. A flight attendant reportedly broke a wine bottle over the man's head to stop him.
Giant rabbit found dead after flight
Simon, a 10-month-old, 3-foot-long continental rabbit, was found dead after flying on a United Airlines plane in April.
In May, an airline spokesman said a "satisfactory resolution" had been reached with the bunny's breeder, who was shipping Simon from the U.K. to new owners in the U.S. But the airline had no comment about a threat of legal action from the would-be future owners of the rabbit.
Doctor dragged from United Airlines flight
In April, United Airlines faced a major backlash when a video surfaced showing physician David Dao being forcibly removed from an oversold flight.
In the video, Dao could be seen screaming and bleeding as officers dragged him down the plane aisle.
Dao and United reached a settlement
United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz has since apologized and updated airline policies on bumping passengers from flights.
Dao and United reached a confidential settlement about two weeks after the incident.
Man kicked off Delta flight for bathroom run
Kima Hamilton, a Delta passenger, was told to wait when he asked to get up to go to the bathroom while his plane sat on the tarmac in April.
After a half hour, Hamilton said the bathroom run was an emergency and got up to use the restroom. When he came back, a Delta employee told him to get off the plane.
He wasn't allowed back on flight
Every passenger on board then was asked to deplane. All of them were eventually allowed back on except for Hamilton, who had to catch a later flight.
Family of four kicked off Delta flight
A man, his wife and their two infants were asked to get off a Delta flight after they refused to give up an extra seat they'd bought for a family member who didn't end up flying with them.
A Delta employee was caught on tape telling the family that they could find themselves in jail if they didn't get off the plane. The four had to stay in a hotel overnight and buy a new set of plane tickets the next day. Delta apologized for the May incident.
Fight breaks out on plane
Two seat mates on a All Nippon Airways flight from Japan started shoving and punching each other before their flight took off in May.
The fight was eventually broken up and the men were asked to deplane, but one of the men allegedly assaulted a gate agent on his way off before he was arrested.
Fist fight on a Southwest Airlines flight
A fight involving two men and a woman erupted on a Southwest Airlines flight in May.
An airline attendant tried to break up the fight, but the two men continued throwing punches until other passengers managed to stop the brawl.
Pilot spooks passengers with rant
A United Airlines pilot spooked passengers in February when she boarded the plane in her civilian clothes and used the PA system to rant about politics and her divorce.
The pilot was removed from the plane, and the passengers took off with a new captain two hours later.
Woman allegedly hit with stroller
A mother of twins cried when an American Airlines flight attendant allegedly hit her with a stroller, according to witnesses.
The airline suspended the flight attendant and apologized over the April incident, which was apparently sparked when the passenger tried to bring an oversized stroller onto the plane.
Plane lands with hole in engine
A Shanghai-bound flight had to return to Sydney, Australia in June after a gaping hole opened up in the engine casing ... mid-flight.
Passengers told Australian media they heard a massive noise and smelled something burning before the plane was turned around. The passengers and crew were unharmed.
Scorpion on a United Airlines plane
A passenger on a United Airlines flight from Calgary to Houston in April said he was stung by a scorpion while eating dinner.
United said the scorpion, which fell on passenger Richard Bell's head and stung him under his fingernail, was euthanized.
Passenger with service dog denied access to airline lounge
Micaela Bensko, who uses a wheelchair after a spinal injury, paid for access to a Virgin Atlantic lounge to lie down before her flight.
But an airline employee denied her access to the lounge, saying Bensko couldn't come in with her service dog. Bensko was forced to lie down on the concrete floor of the airport instead.
According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, people with service animals are legally permitted to go anywhere the public is allowed to go.
Virgin responded
Virgin Atlantic said in a statement that they had "sent an urgent reminder to our Clubhouse teams to clarify the policy around support dogs, and will be investigating further to improve the way the situation was handled."
Passenger says she had to pee in cup
Nicole Harper, who says she has an overactive bladder, says she was not allowed to get up to use the bathroom during a United Airlines flight in May.
Harper asked for a cup, which was provided. But after she used it at her seat, she said she was shamed by the flight crew.
Sisters kicked off plane miss seeing dying dad
On an Allegiant Air flight in January, Debbie Hartman got a text that her dad only had hours to live. She got up to tell her sister, seated at the back of the plane.
A flight attendant told her to sit down, but Hartman was determined to get to her sister and said she was having a panic attack. At that point, the pilot turned the plane around and the sisters were escorted off the plane. The father died before the sisters could make it home.
