The unusual deaths of the two Mrs. Henthorns
Harold Henthorn met his first wife, Lynn Rishell, in college in Virginia. She was known for her kind personality and worked as a social worker. Lynn and Harold were married for 12 years until tragedy struck.
Tragedy in Sedalia
On May 6, 1995, Harold and Lynn Henthorn went on a nighttime drive along the remote highway near Sedalia, Colorado. They had stopped to fix a flat tire.
An Unusual Accident
According to Harold Henthorn, Lynn went underneath the car to retrieve a lug nut that she dropped. At the same time, he said he threw the flat tire into the trunk of the Jeep, causing the car to fall off the jack and crush Lynn. She later died in the hospital.

Case Closed
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office closed the case six days later, calling Lynn Henthorn's death an accident.
Harold's Second Love, Toni
Five years after Lynn Henthorn's tragic death, Harold Henthorn found love again through a Christian dating site where he met his second wife, Toni Bertolet. A prominent ophthalmologist in Jackson, Mississippi, Toni's family the couple connected through their deep-rooted Christian faith.
Another Unusual Accident
While hiking, Harold Henthorn says there was a horrible accident -- Toni fell 140 feet to her death. Harold informed Barry Bertolet, Toni's brother, of the accident by text.
Moving to the Mountains
Harold and Toni Henthorn moved to Denver, Colorado, where Harold had lived before. The couple had a child, Haley.
Anniversary Hike
As part of a 12th wedding anniversary celebration, Harold Henthorn planned a surprise weekend getaway, with a hike with Toni at Rocky Mountain National Park.
Deja Vu
Denver CBS affilate KCNC reported on the accident and later, investigative reporter Brian Maass received an anonymous email tip from a viewer who said Harold Henthorn's first wife, Lynn had died under unusual circumstances in an in May 1995.
From 'Accident' to 'Undetermined'
After taking a closer look at reports on Lynn Henthorn's death, Douglas County Coroner Lora Thomas changed Lynn's manner of death from "accident" to "undetermined" in December, 2014. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office also reopened the case, but no criminal charges have been filed.
On Trial for Murder
Harold Henthorn went on trial for Toni's murder in September 2015. A judge permitted the circumstances surrounding the death of his first wife, Lynn, to be included in the trial. Henthorn did not take the stand and his defense attorney called no witnesses.
Harold Henthorn Arrested
On Nov. 6, 2014, two years after Toni's fatal fall, Harold Henthorn was arrested and charged by federal authorities with her first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty.
The Verdict
After 10 hours of deliberation, the jury found Harold Henthorn guilty of murdering Toni Hentorn. He received a mandatory life sentence.

Lynn and Toni Henthorn share many tragic connections, including their final resting spot. Harold Henthorn, who quickly had the bodies of both wives cremated, spread their ashes, 17 years apart, in the same spot.
