$300,000 t-shirt? UN fights famine with fashion

Got a few hundred thousand dollars to spend on a shirt? You're in luck. UNICEF has joined forces with a pair of New York City artists to produce a line of t-shirts aimed at easing the famine in Somalia and other countries in the Horn of Africa. Each shirt in the line sells for the exact cost of the famine aid it depicts, whether it's deworming tablets, an emergency tent, or something a bit pricier. Measles kills more than 600 children every day, and those who survive may be left with disabilities such as blindness and brain damage. For $24.30, the cost of this shirt will vaccinate 81 children against measles.

Worm infestation can result in impaired cognitive development. Intestinal worms can go undetected for long periods of time and cause a range of health problems. For 1,000 deworming tablets, this shirt costs $36.10.

High-energy biscuits

High-energy biscuits are easy to distribute during emergencies and contain vitamins and minerals that quickly improve the level of nutrition. For $49.96, you can buy 1,200 high-energy biscuits - and this shirt, of course.

Ready-to-Eat Therapeutic Food
