2006 World Series: Game 3

Cardinals fans hold out their palms with a mark on their hands in reference to Tigers Game 2 pitcher Kenny Rogers before Game 3. Rogers had a similar mark on his hand, possibly pine tar. He heard plenty from the sellout crowd at Busch Stadium during pregame introductions, as chants of "Cheater!" echoed throughout the ballpark. But that was about the only noise the Tigers caused in this game.

Starting pitcher Chris Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals throws during first inning. Carpenter beat San Diego twice in the first round of this year's playoffs, but struggled twice against the New York Mets in the NLCS at Shea Stadium.

The Cardinals' David Eckstein is waved home by third base coach Jose Oquendo (11) as Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge watches the throw by Zumaya head into the outfield. Zumaya was charged with a throwing error, making the score 4-0.

Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter reacts after a double play to end the seventh inning. Carpenter used big breaking balls to spin three-hit ball for eight innings. He struck out six, walked none and kept the Tigers' trio of Placido Polanco, Ivan Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson hitless in the Series.
