George Clooney arrives at the Oscars March 5, 2006. He won as Best Supporting Actor for "Syriana"; is nominated as Best Director for "Good Night, and Good Luck," and, with Grant Heslov, he is nominated in the category of Best Original Screenplay, also for "Good Night, and Good Luck."

Ang Lee and his wife, Jane Lin, arrive at the Oscars. He is nominated as Best Director for "Brokeback Mountain."

Actress Amy Adams arrives at the Oscars in Hollywood March 5, 2006. She was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Junebug." Adams' chocolate brown gown with ribbon applique was by Carolina Herrera. Adams even borrowed Herrera's own aquamarine dangling earrings.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and his girlfriend, costumer designer Mimi O'Donnell, arrive at the Oscars. He is up for Best Actor for his performance as the title character in "Capote."

Terrence Howard, Best Actor nominee for "Hustle & Flow," arrives at the 78th Annual Academy Awards March 5, 2006.

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon arrive at the 78th Annual Academy Awards March 5, 2006. She is nominated in the category of Best Actress for her work in "Walk the Line."

David Strathairn, nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night, and Good Luck," arrives at the 78th Annual Academy Awards March 5, 2006.

Actress Rachel Weisz arrives at the Oscars. She won as Best Supporting Actress for her role in "The Constant Gardener." For Weisz, who is 7 months pregnant, comfort was important in picking her long, slinky black gown with cap sleeves. "My friend Narciso Rodriguez made me three dresses and I chose one this morning," she said. Her Chopard emerald-cut diamond demi-drop earrings had round white diamond studs.

Actor Matt Dillon, nominated as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Crash," arrives at the Oscars March 5, 2006.

Paul Giamatti, nominated as Best Supporting Actor for "Cinderella Man," arrives at the 78th Annual Academy Awards March 5, 2006.

Dolly Parton arrives at the Oscars March 5, 2006. Nominated in the category of Best Song for "Travelin' Thru" from "Transamerica," performed the tune during the Oscars telecast.

Director Tim Burton and actress Helena Bonham Carter arrive at the Oscars March 5, 2006. He was nominated in the category of Best Animated Feature for "The Corpse Bride." (Bonham Carter provided the voice of the title character. She also did a character's voice in "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," which won as animated feature.)

Nicole Kidman arrives at the 78th Annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre March 5, 2006 in Hollywood, Calif. Kidman was in a cream-colored strapless gown with beautiful delicate embroidery.

What's this? Has the march of the penguins extended to Oscar's red carpet? It sure looks like it, as the crew of the documentary film "March of the Penguins" arrives for the Oscars. The film won as Best Documentary Feature.

But, then again, maybe these particular penguins aren't real.
