20 women in tech to follow on Google+
According to Google+ Social Statics, women make up 12.4 percent of users on the new social networking site. Need help finding them? Here's our list of 20 women in technology you should follow on Google+.
Marissa Mayer is one of the most respected and recognizable people in the tech industry. She was plucked right out of Stanford University to become Google's 20th employee. Her Google+ page is a mix of personal posts and observations that makes her even more likable.
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook chief operating officer
Sheryl Sandberg is the genius that turned Facebook into a profitable company. She was at Google serving as their vice president for global online sales and operations when Mark Zuckerberg offered her the position of chief operating officer. She also serves on the board of directors at Disney and Starbucks. Her Google+ profile may be sparse, but she posts about Facebook occasionally.
Melissa Daniels, Google+ Hangouts community manager
Melissa Daniels is a community manager for Google+ Hangouts. Her profile has news and updates, but most importantly, cat videos. She has a Circle called "Crazy Cat People" and we want in!
Gina Trapani, ThinkUp lead developer and Lifehacker founding editor
Gina Trapani is the founding editor of productivity blog Lifehacker. Currently a lead developer at ThinkUp, a social media insights engine, she can brag that the White House uses her software. Her Google+ profile is full of fun shares, including photos of food.

Danese Cooper is Wikimedia Foundation's chief technology officer. She's a self-proclaimed "open source diva." Although, she's leaving Wikimedia at the end of July, we're hopeful that she'll remain active in her advocacy for the open source community. Veronica Belmont is one of the most beloved female geeks online. She's the co-host of Revision3's popular show "Tekzilla." Also a writer and a podcaster, her love for technology is apparent on her Google+ profile.

Rebekah Cox is a product designer at Quora, the social question-and-answer site. Before that, she was a product design lead at Facebook. Her Google+ page is basically a lead-in to her Quora page, which is absolutely engaging. She tells the tale of how she was initially recruited to Facebook and her interview with Mark Zuckerberg. She also talks about the pros and cons of being a woman in the tech industry.
Xeni Jardin, Boing Boing co-founder
Tech blog enthusiasts have probably heard of Boing Boing co-founder Xeni Jardin. The snarky blonde is still a co-editor for the site and has also contributed to NPR, Wired and New York Times. Her Google+ page is filled with commentary and news links, but we enjoy the cat gifs the most.

Emily Chang, Ideacodes co-founder
Emily Chang is probably most famous for being the recipient of the first Twitter proposal. In March 2008, Mashable reported that Max Kiesler proposed to the web designer via Twitter.
