14 celebrity noses: Whose schnoz do you share?
There are nearly 7 billion people in the world. How many types of noses are there? Only 14, if you believe a new study in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery. Ben-Gurion University's Dr. Abraham Tamir, a professor of chemical engineering who claims to know noses, arrived at that number after poring over 1,793 photos of people and artworks. Fourteen is two more than the 12 nose types outlined in "Face Reading," a book based on the traditional Chinese art that Tamir cited in his study.
Some of the honkers Tamir identified have well-known handles. Nose number two, also called the "hawk nose," is exemplified by Barbra Streisand (shown at left). Others noses picked by Tamir are known only by numbers. What kind of nose do you have? Nose 5: The Carey Mulligan (turned-up nose)
Carey Mulligan's "turned-up" or "celestial" nose was found in 12.9 percent of noses surveyed. The study also calls this nose shape one of the most attractive.
Nose 6: The Elizabeth Taylor (snub nose)
The other nose named one of the most attractive to have, Elizabeth Taylor's "snub nose" was found in 4.7 percent of the nose population surveyed. This nose is small, sloping upward at the tip, so that the nostrils are visible.

A nose like John F. Kennedy's was found on 16.3 percent of the faces surveyed.
Nose 8: The Mona Lisa (Greek nose)
The "Greek nose," like that of Leonardo da Vinci or his Mona Lisa's, was found on 3 percent of the faces studied. This type of nose is perfectly straight.
Nose 9: The David
Nine percent of noses were nose type number 9, which has a slight bump or ridge, seen here on Michelangelo's sculpture David.
Nose 10: The Stalin (Roman nose)
Joseph Stalin is one of the 8.8 percent of people surveyed with a "Roman nose." The Roman nose is long and has a downward-sloping tip.

Nose 12: The Obama-Bush
President Obama has the same nose type as 3.6 percent of the noses studied. Another famous figure with this nose? George W. Bush.
Nose 13: The Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe's narrow nose shape was found in just 0.8 percent of faces studied.
Nose 14: The Anonymous
The rarest of all the nose types, this flat, rounded shape was found in only one face out of the 1793 considered - 0.05 percent of the population. For this reason, the study author says there are no important figures to represent this nose.
