The Council for Community and Economic Research looked at the cost of living in 308 urban areas in the U.S. -- crunching the numbers on everything from the average price of a supermarket can of coffee, to apartment rents, to T-bone steaks -- and put out a list of the 10 most expensive places to live.

1. New York (Manhattan)
