10 most dangerous toys of 2014

Every year the advocacy group World Against Toys Causing Harm, WATCH, issues a list of dangerous toys. Here's the 2014 list, the group's 42nd such list.

For the Zing Air Storm Fire Tek Bow, WATCH says the manufacturer's warning not to aim the arrows at people or animals, especially the eyes or face, may be "unfeasible for a young child to follow while playing."

Radio Flyer Ziggle

WATCH points out that "despite a warning to 'always wear' a helmet and other safety gear, the young rider pictured on the box is wearing no protection."

Toysmith Catapencil

According to WATCH, "Children of all ages, while being advised to 'play safe and enjoy,' are also encouraged to use a pencil-turned-catapult for 'target practice for your desktop!' Sharpened pencils should not be marketed as playthings, much less a miniature slingshot-style launcher."

Alphabet Zoo Rock & Stack Pull Toy

WATCH says this pull toy violates industry safety standards by having a 20-inch string -- longer than the 12-inch standard -- which poses a strangulation hazard.

Junxing Toys Industrial SWAT Electric Machine Gun

"In today’s world, there is no excuse for outfitting children with realistic toy weapons designed to produce potentially dangerous and unnecessary thrills," WATCH says. "Detailed replicas have resulted in a number of deaths through the years and should never be sold as toys."

WATCH warns young children could choke on the wooden drumstick included in this set.

Science Wiz Bottle Rocket Party

This set of bottle rockets, labeled for children as young as age 8, poses the risk of eye, face and other injuries, according to WATCH.

JC Toys Lil' Cutesies Best Friends

WATCH warns that these dolls, marketed for children as young as age 2, have "a decorative bow made of ribbon which can detach from the head of the baby doll, posing the potential for choking if ingested."

Toys R Us True Legends Orcs Battle Hammer

WATCH points out the dangers when "three-year-old children are encouraged to play the part of a 'Savage Orc' by wielding a hard plastic 'Battle Hammer' measuring almost two feet in length. There are no accompanying cautions or warnings" on the toy's packaging.

WATCH warns that this stuffed animal, made for infants, has "long, fiber-like hair that is not adequately rooted and is easily removable, presenting the potential for ingestion or aspiration injuries."
