Temple Professor Explains Mobile Advertising
Philadelphia (CBS) - Advertising is no longer confined to what, a generation ago, were all the usual places. Now it can pop up anywhere, but to what effect?
"Anytime you drive frustrated, selfish, bold or pushy."
This is a PennDOT message from a device hanging from a gas-pump hose. You see buses and even cars wrapped by sponsors, and maybe a flat screen TV in the elevator.
Professor Michael Maynard, chairman of advertising at Temple, says ubiquity is a constant concern, highlighted in a Wall Street Journal cartoon:
"It had two penguins and one of them had the swoosh on his stomach and he said to the other penguin, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse."
Professor Maynard says the Internet has been a game-changer especially with the way it allows tailored approaches to interested or steady customers but he says watch what happens at the margins, which will eventually be the mainstream.
