The man, who has a prior sex offense on his record, was taken into custody this morning in Sunset Park in the general vicinity of the attack, police said.
The suspect is described as a white man, between 45 and 49 years old. Authorities said the man weighs about 145 pounds and has a bald head, grey mustache and a mole under the left side of his lip.
Police say officers were responding to a report of an assault in progress Saturday when they found the body of 54-year-old Nimala Randunu on the floor of the store on Third Street in Sunset Park.
