A Long Island woman was hit and critically wounded by a stray bullet early Sunday, as she headed to a party in northern New Jersey.
Police discovered two people dead early Saturday in the parking lot of a Bronx motel. One of the victims was found on the ground near a car, the other on the ground near the front office of the motel.
The suspect fired two rounds at officers with an illegal 9 mm handgun that was purchased out of state, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Police said the woman, 50, is recovering following surgery. The family requested the victim's name not be released.
The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Connecticut Avenue as the woman was walking back to her car after grocery shopping, police said.
