Yonkers Woman, 85, Charged In Fatal Hit And Run
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (CBS 2/AP) -- An 85-year-old Yonkers woman was arrested and faces criminal charges in the hit and run death of a Bronxville school official this week.
Bridget Gambone said nothing after being fingerprinted and posing for a mug shot at Bronxville Village Court on Friday. She faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death.
Police said Gambone was driving on Kraft Avenue Thursday night when she struck 59-year-old Sheryl Chasin and fled the scene.
Chasin was a widely respected administrator with Yonkers schools.
Police said the driver struck Chasin twice.
"Witness statements and investigation reveal that Mrs. Gambone stopped her vehicle, backed up over Ms. Chasin, then fled the scene," Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale said.
A second driver ran over Chasin while she was lying on the roadway but stopped at the scene and was not charged.
Police said alcohol or drugs did not appear to have played a role in the death, but they are awaiting blood test results from both drivers.
