Suspect Arrested In Yonkers Columbus Statue Vandalism
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 27-year-old man is facing charges after police said he vandalized a Christopher Columbus statue in Yonkers.
It happened last month at Columbus Park on Park Hill Avenue.
The two-foot high bust of Columbus was knocked off its pedestal and broken into pieces.
Investigators believe it was "a spontaneous act of vandalism" done using a baseball bat.
The suspect has been identified as Emanuel Santiago Batista of Yonkers.
He's been charged with felony criminal mischief.
