Yankees To Honor Mo Rivera During Pregame Tribute On September 22
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mark your calendars now.
You're not going to want to miss this.
Mariano Rivera, who will retire at the end of the season, will be honored during a pregame tribute on Sunday, September 22, before the Yankees host the Giants at Yankee Stadium.
The ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m., and gates will open at 11 a.m. First pitch for the game is set for 1:05 p.m.
The Yankees have announced that there will be special guests on hand, including former teammates and coaches. The organization, however, did not specify who any of those guests will be.
The legendary closer has been honored by opposing clubs throughout the season in his final big-league campaign. He has been given gifts in cities across the country and been the recipient of rousing applause and standing ovations from coast to coast.
The 43-year-old has been brilliant for the Yankees this season. An All-Star selection for the 13th time in 2013, Mo has pitched to a 1.64 ERA and converted 33 of 35 save opportunities. He's displayed excellent command, as usual, striking out 36 and walking just seven.
