Yankees Sign Nationals Castoff J.C. Romero To Minor League Deal
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — The Yankees have signed left-handed reliever J.C. Romero to a minor league contract. The team assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before their 16-7 loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
The Washington Nationals announced earlier in the day that they had given Romero his unconditional release. The 35-year-old pitched five times for Washington's Triple-A affiliate.
Romero began the season with Philadelphia. He had a 3.86 ERA in 24 games for the Phillies before his release.
Romero went 2-0 in the 2008 World Series when the Phillies beat Tampa Bay.
