Yankees Shortstop Nunez Suffers Ribcage Injury, Set To Undergo MRI
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Yankees are crossing their fingers in hope that their situation at shortstop hasn't gotten worse. Already without captain Derek Jeter, they're hoping Eduardo Nunez's ribcage injury isn't serious.
Nunez, the Yankees' starting shortstop while Jeter has been on the DL, left after four innings because of tightness in his left ribcage. He was replaced by recent acquisition Chris Nelson and was sent for an MRI. Jayson Nix shifted to shortstop, while Nelson entered the game at third base. New York went on to lose to the Athletics 5-4 on Sunday.
The Yankees' infield has taken a major hit in 2013, as they're currently without Jeter, Kevin Youkilis, Alex Rodriguez and now possibly Nunez.
Youkilis was placed on the disabled list on April 30 due to a lumbar spine sprain.
